In Memory of Maggie
Margarita (Maggie) survived childhood poverty and became the first person in her family to attend college. Armed with her master's degree, she was a lifelong educator and principal in Texas. She credited her commitment to education and faith as the key to her success.
Her mission was to help remove barriers that led to academic drop-out, such as trauma, poverty, ESL, and low income. She knew first-hand how it felt to be the poorest student in class every year, and to study by candlelight because there was not electricity at home.
As an educator, she saw that many children would miss school and fall behind simply because they did not have shoes that fit. She felt responsible for helping others and removing whatever barriers she could. She often, in secret, bought new shoes for students and paid utility bills so they could attend school.
Maggie earned her Angel wings in 2020 after a valiant battle with cancer.
Before her passing, her daughter promised her an Annual Back to School Shoe Drive in her memory so she and her mission would never be forgotten. Maggie smiled.
On behalf of Maggie and her daughter, Lisa, thank you...
